Shreyas Iyer
The metropolitan city of Mumbai has always produced high-quality batters in their 'maidans' and Shreyas Iyer is one such player whose natural ability is on display every time he walks onto the field with the bat in his hand. Born on 6th December 1994 in Mumbai, Shreyas Iyer is a right-handed batter representing India and has made a name for himself in the cricket-loving nation.
Iyer began his career by playing cricket for his college team and in 2014, he represented India at the Men’s Under-19 World Cup. After returning from the World Cup, he made his T20 debut for Mumbai against Baroda in the 2014 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy season. Later in the year, he made his List A and first-class debuts for Mumbai. In 2015, Iyer was picked by the Delhi franchise for the 2015 Indian Premier League. He had a breakout season that year, scoring 439 runs in 14 matches, and was also awarded the Emerging Player of the Tournament.
A couple of years later, in October 2017, Iyer made his T20I debut for India during the home series against New Zealand, and the following month, he made his ODI debut against Sri Lanka. He had to wait a long time to represent his country in red-ball cricket and finally made his Test debut for India against New Zealand in 2021, where he scored a century and fifty.
After spending several years with the Delhi franchise, Shreyas was bought by the Kolkata franchise in the 2022 mega auction and was appointed as the captain for the Indian Premier League season. However, the following season saw Iyer sidelined due to a back injury, with Nitish Rana stepping in to lead the team in his absence.
